Workday

Sunday 26 February 2017

Hi to all Volunteers and Supporters of Otanewainuku

We had a great workday last weekend with good weather and lots of track clearing work completed.  Lots of comments about the numbers of robins that were seen and the great condition of the bush. Thanks to all those that helped out. The cleared tracks are so much easier to travel along and every little bit helps.

There is still lots to do. So if you fancy a few hours in some magnificent bush then we are planning another Otanewainuku work-day for Sunday February 26th.

We're back a day early because it's going to be wet tonight so little point in going out. Kiwi call doesn't travel well and the scent is washed out so the dogs can't track.

Pest control operation in the bush to target rats and possums - volunteers needed

The pest control operation is going great guns. The second pre-feed was put out on Sunday with a great volunteer response making the job that much easier. A big thank you to those who came along to help out. Most bait stations are being visited by rats and possums with the pre-feed being eaten out of most of them. This is encouraging.

Pest control operation in the bush to target rats and possums

It is that time of year again when we undertake our pest control operation in the bush to target rats and possums. This is the Trust's major pest operation for the year and is important to give the forest and bird life the best chance of survival and reduce pest numbers.  Would you be able to help us with the first weekend of putting the pre-feed out in the bush?

Bait Station intensification 2015

Increasing bait station density

This year’s intensification project outcome was to reduce our existing bait station grid network from 150m x 75m to 75m x 75m. This effectively meant a new line to be cut between all lines on the existing grid.
