guardians

The Otanewainuku Kiwi Trust (OKT) are guardians of 1200 hectares of virgin bush. We have a range of bush walks, from the easy 40 minute rimu loop track to a longer walk to the summit offering impressive views of the Bay of Plenty.

Our flora and fauna includes North Island brown kiwi, robins, tomtits, kereru, the rare king fern and native long-tail bats. Numbers of kiwi are boosted by translocation, and kokako have been reintroduced to the Forest. News: First chick hatched!

volunteers | our life blood

Our volunteers travel many thousands of kilometres and give thousands of hours each year. Work includes monitoring stoat trap lines, helping at workdays, kiwi night listening surveys, administration, sausage sizzles and more. See how you can help.

We invite you to read our latest newsletter or support us by sponsoring a hectare of our forest. Check out the rest of our website!
